Dermaplaning Aftercare: What to Do, and What to Avoid
By L&R Beauty | November 5, 2026
Fast rule to remember: keep your skin calm and protected. That means gentle cleansing, plenty of hydration, and SPF. Skip makeup, strong actives, heat, and sweat for the first 24 to 72 hours.
I hear it all the time after a dermaplaning facial in Panama City: people love how comfortable the appointment feels and how “nothing felt rushed.” That part matters, because dermaplaning leaves your skin instantly smoother and brighter, but also a bit more exposed for a couple of days. If you treat it gently right after, you keep that fresh, clear finish instead of accidentally irritating it. And in our year-round sun and coastal humidity, sunscreen and lightweight moisture are non-negotiable.
Your first 24 to 48 hours after dermaplaning: keep it simple
Right after dermaplaning, think “calm, clean, covered.” Dermaplane removes dead skin and fine facial hair, so products sink in fast. That’s great for hydration, but it also means harsh stuff can sting.
Do this today
- Cleanse gently with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water.
- Moisturize with a lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer. Hydrated skin tends to look smoother longer.
- Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ any time you’ll be outdoors. Reapply every two hours outside.
- Keep hands off your face. No picking at dry spots or “checking the smoothness” all day.
Avoid for the first 24 hours: makeup, retinol, AHAs/BHAs, scrubs, hot baths, saunas or steam rooms, heavy exercise, and direct sun. If you’ve got beach plans in Panama City Beach, wait until your skin feels calm and you can commit to consistent SPF.
If you’re a shift worker, busy parent, or in a military household juggling schedules, this is the easiest way to protect your results: wash, moisturize, SPF, and leave the rest alone. Simple usually wins here.
Days 3 to 7: the “don’t overdo it” week that keeps skin clear
By the time you’re a few days out, most people feel normal again. This is also when it’s tempting to throw every active product back in at once. Don’t. The goal is to keep that smooth surface you just worked for.
In my treatment room, I’m thorough and communicative, and I’m the same way about aftercare. If you want the “nice and clear” look people mention after dermaplaning, keep your routine gentle for the full week.
What I’d pause for a full week
- Retinoids and retinol
- AHAs/BHAs (glycolic, lactic, salicylic)
- Physical exfoliants and cleansing brushes
- Peels, aggressive masks, and “tingly” products
Sweat, water, and heat rules that matter here in Panama City
Coastal humidity can make skin feel slick, but sweat plus friction can kick up irritation fast. If you can, keep workouts lighter for 48 to 72 hours. Hold off on pools and hot tubs for the same window. If you’re driving in from Lynn Haven, Callaway, Parker, Springfield, Southport, or Panama City Beach for an appointment before an event, schedule dermaplaning a few days ahead so your skin has time to settle.
The post-dermaplane routine I like: cleanser, hydrator, moisturizer, SPF
You don’t need a complicated shelf to maintain your glow. You need the right types of products, used consistently.
Gentle cleanser: fragrance-light, non-stripping, and no scrubs. Lukewarm water only for the first couple of days.
Hydrator: hyaluronic acid is a great option if you already use it. Apply on slightly damp skin, then seal it in with moisturizer.
Lightweight moisturizer: in Panama City’s climate, heavy occlusives can feel like too much. A breathable layer usually looks better under sunscreen.
SPF: broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every single day. Reapply when you’re outdoors, even if it’s cloudy.
If you want to stack services, I also do combos like a deep cleansing facial with dermaplaning and eyebrow threading, so your skin and brows are handled in one visit.
Redness that won’t quit, stinging, or bumps: here’s when to reach out
A little pinkness right after dermaplaning is common. Mild sensitivity can happen too, especially if your skin is already reactive. That usually settles quickly when you stick with gentle products.
Reach out to me if redness is getting worse instead of better, if you’re feeling persistent burning, or if you accidentally used an active (retinol or acids) and now your skin is irritated. Stop your actives right away and go back to cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF until things calm down.
“Went in to get my eyebrows threaded, wonderful service, and very clean and professional environment! Left with my next appointment made!”

Dermaplaning aftercare FAQ (the questions I get every week)
Can I wear makeup after dermaplaning?
I recommend skipping makeup for the first 24 hours. Your skin is freshly exfoliated, so keeping it clean lowers the chance of irritation or clogged pores. If you have to wear makeup the next day, keep it light and remove it gently that night.
How long does redness or sensitivity last after dermaplaning?
A little redness often fades within a few hours. Mild sensitivity can last a day or two. If you’re still noticeably irritated after a couple of days, pause actives and reach out so I can help you troubleshoot.
When can I use retinol or AHA products again after dermaplaning?
Usually 3 to 7 days, depending on how sensitive your skin is. If you tend to react easily, wait the full week. When you restart, introduce one active at a time and use it less frequently at first.
Can I go swimming or use a hot tub after dermaplaning?
I recommend waiting 24 to 72 hours. Pools, hot tubs, and even ocean water can irritate freshly exfoliated skin. If you’re planning a beach day in Panama City Beach, give yourself a few days and commit to consistent SPF.
How soon can I schedule another dermaplaning facial?
Most people do well on a monthly rhythm. That gives your skin time to complete its natural cycle without over-exfoliating. If you’re not sure what’s right for you, ask me at your appointment and I’ll help you choose a timing that makes sense.
If I’m searching “threading for eyebrows near me, ” can I pair brow threading with a facial?
Yes. A lot of my regulars bundle services so they’re not running all over town. If you want brow threading with a dermaplaning facial, tell me what you’re aiming for and I’ll map out the best order for your skin that day.
Is a “dermabrasion facial” the same thing as dermaplaning?
They’re both exfoliation, but they’re not the same technique. Dermaplaning uses a blade to remove dead skin and fine facial hair. Dermabrasion uses a different method to exfoliate and smooth texture. If you’re torn between the two, I’ll help you pick what matches your skin and downtime comfort.
What does “dermaplane” mean?
“Dermaplane” is the action of dermaplaning. It’s a controlled, gentle exfoliation that leaves your skin feeling very smooth right away. Aftercare matters because your skin is freshly polished, so protecting it with hydration and SPF keeps the glow looking even.
One last thing: if you found me while searching eyebrow threading close to me, eyebrow threading near me, brow threading, waxing near me, or brazilian wax near me, you’re in the right place for detail-focused work. I’m in Downtown Panama City on the Jenks Avenue corridor near the historic downtown commercial district, and I keep aftercare simple so you can actually follow it.
